The Development of the Hungarian Startup Ecosystem #3
IDA the Dietary Supplement Advisor helps to choose the right and proper dietary supplement – the application was introduced by founder and CEO Tímea Polgár, PhD. She said during the pitch that nearly 75% of the population in the US is using some form of dietary supplement. The US market has more than 200,000 registered products of this type. In Hungary there are more than 16,000 products. Based on data from the US, she believes that IDA can save 30% of the money spent on dietary supplements and that its effectiveness can be significantly increased. The problem is the lack of information and regulation: the product declared as a dietary supplement does not have to be authorized, so the information written on the package is not verified, too. With its database-based application, IDA serves multiple purposes:
- makes verified product data easily searchable: product name, OETI number, manufacturer, ingredients,
- recommends the right product to customers based on clinical and scientific information, not the product label,
- provides scientific information to customers through an application. With the help of AI it supports merchants with customer data,
- and creates a market for nutritionists,
- provides a unique and affordable solution for small and medium-sized retailers who receive up-to-date inventory and online presence for their subscription.
Unlike its competitors, IDA makes large amounts of information easy to search. Through their B2B2C marketing strategy, they reach users through the merchant. The main target markets for this product are the US and Europe. An international board of directors helps the business. The prototype was completed in 2018 and tested in collaboration with dm. As a result of the test, the problem was also confirmed that the sales staff in the stores lacked the appropriate expertise. With their upcoming equity crowdfunding campaign on Tokeportal.hu, they are currently seeking 100 million HUF. They had just found their leading investor days before the event.

The SBrick story was presented to the audience by CEO Lénárd Pásztor. The essence of the product is to make building toys – like LEGO products – wirelessly operable and programmable with a single remote control unit, which also serves educational purposes. In his presentation, Lénárd Pásztor said that the business started with a successful Kickstarter campaign and the biggest benefit of it was the ever-growing fan base. The second product, called SBrick Plus, was also implemented through crowdfunding and entered many competitions. Unlike before, SBrick3 will now be a complete kit: independent of brands, allowing individual and team play, learning and programming. The SBrick products available on the market so far are compatible with the popular desktop and phone operating systems, both of them can be ordered at the webshop. The core of their marketing strategy is the sale of hardware and training software to users and distributors. They also work together with many educational programmes. SBrick’s pre-registration campaign is now available on Tokeportal.hu to pre-register for their crowdfunding campaign.

Infratrainer addresses one of the most common diseases of the 21st century: overweight – said Zoltán Sándorfi business consultant. The ergonomic machine works with infrared light and it is complemented by Zerofat Technologys nutrition and exercise advisory system. In Hungary the service has been on the market for 4 years, with an average weight loss of 8-10 kilograms in a 12-week program. Currently, the machine is available in more than 100 studios in Hungary, but is also available in Germany, Austria and Canada. Unlike its competitors, Infratrainer pays particular attention to proper posture, customizable design, and the personalized workout provided by the software control. Infratrainer machines are now manufactured by Tungsram, providing the highest quality manufacturing background. The core of their business model is the development and marketing of the Zerofat Technology system, in addition to the sales of machines. They are thinking in two investment circles: the first round of capital raising will be through Tokeportal.hu, with Tungsram as their lead investor. The pre-registration page for their equity crowdfunding campaign is now available. Fundraising enables international expansion and marketing, participation in international exhibitions, and product development.
