Miniinterview with Péter Schuszter
23/12/2021 – Tokeportal’s own content
In the previous episode of our mini-interview series, Dr. Miklos Varga answered our questions, and this time Peter Schuszter introduces himself. Peter, a fintech and business development expert, has 25 years of experience as a corporate executive and has worked in both finance and investment. His areas of expertise include fintech, business model design and stock exchange.
You have more than 25 years of corporate management experience, having worked for example as a first line manager at Generali Fund Management and as a member of the board of the Budapest Stock Exchange. How do you think leadership skills will influence the future of startups?
A significant number of startups do not have the management experience to make a startup successful along a long-term business strategy. For this reason, management experience can be of great help to these companies. In addition, the networking capital that has been built up over 30 years can also be of great value. Startups are very keen to engage in professional development, but often lack process management, planning and leadership skills. Such a mentoring platform is also a solution to make up for this, and to facilitate their development.
You have experience in both investment and finance, and you are currently Deputy CEO of an investment service provider. You are also an advisor to a virtual reality startup. How important do you think it is for today's companies to listen to and use technological innovations? Do those who are missing out have a chance to stay in the market?
I have always been a fan of the latest digital trends. At one time I had 10 different bank credit cards, but today I still use many new digital solutions, for example for payments. The only way to enter and stay in the market today is for companies to keep using the latest technologies. You have to keep an eye on them and be able to apply them. I myself am constantly training myself in this respect, and I must not fall behind.
I am a great believer in the potential of social media, for example. We at SPB have recently launched our podcast and YouTube channel. Using them can only be useful if you use them in the right place and in the right way. But they should definitely be incorporated into almost any business opportunity we embark on.
As an executive coach, what does mentoring mean to you?
Providing comprehensive support where, as well as giving advice to the mentored, the main strength is in being able to guide them on what to do. It is up to the mentored person to pave the way, we can give them crutches, but we can’t do the tasks for them. So it is the coach approach to leadership and support, based on involvement, that I believe in.
You are currently working at SPB, where you have just obtained the NOMAD advisor status, which means you help companies to go public. Where do you see the relevance of this for startups?
Startups can grow if they can get some kind of financing. This is where the Tokeportal helps them. Obviously, the end of the road is if the company can go public. In the domestic market, the Xtend market was launched a year or two ago, where smaller companies are welcome and from which companies could later be admitted to the Standard category. NOMAD advisers help companies to get onto the Xtend. They are constantly paving their way and supporting them in the implementation process. In this way, companies that have already gone through a crow-funding campaign can be very interested in getting to Xtend, where they can raise very significant funds for their operations.
In what areas can you help those looking for mentors?
Obviously, I have a huge experience in finance, investment, financial due diligence, stock market access, investment opportunities are all areas where I can definitely give useful advice. All of this, combined with my coaching qualifications, can give young start-ups a new insight into a leadership skill that can be very important in starting a business or at a particular point of maturity. In addition, digital solutions, social media, PR and marketing are also areas where they can ask for my help!
